One genre having an increasingly difficult time to find a place at festivals is films about film history. To a certain extent, this film (from the 2024 Forum main program) is an example of the genre, while also being much, much more. Alexander Horwath’s three-hour essay is a wander through the history of the USA, an autobiographical warhorse ride from an international cultural historical perspective (as can only be seldom experienced these days) and last but not least, a declaration of love to one from the guild—Henry Fonda. The former director of the Viennale and the Filmmuseum and now directorial debutant says goodbye to the American star. We say welcome!
